Thanasi's Tribe
Story
Hi there!
On Saturday, 4 September Jarrad and I will be participating in the 'Neuroblastoma Run2Cure' event to help raise funds and awareness for a cause very close to our hearts.
In December 2019, our son Thanasi was born with stage 4S neuroblastoma. He underwent four rounds of chemotherapy before he was three months old. It was a very difficult time for our family, as we watched our little man fight for his life. We spent days and nights at the hospital, praying for his recovery and fighting back tears (unsuccessfully).
We've come a long way since that time and we are so blessed that Thanasi has survived this. Our experience has motivated us to help bring more awareness to this rare and complex disease.
In Australia alone, 40 children are diagnosed with neuroblastoma each year. That's 40 too many. Especially when considering that neuroblastoma is the leading cause of cancer death in children under five years old and that the survival rate for children diagnosed with an aggressive form of neuroblastoma is only 50%.
We hope our participation will help raise enough funds for research and safer treatment options so that no parent ever has to experience the pain associated with this disease.
I would really appreciate it if you'd consider walking/running with #ThanasisTribe on the day or making a donation!
Thank you!
Jarrad and Lisa
Neuroblastoma Australia
Neuroblastoma is a devasting childhood cancer with the average age of diagnosis being just two years old. With survival of rates for aggressive neuroblastoma at only 50%, this disease claims more lives of children under the age of five than any other cancer.
We don’t need a miracle; just more research.
Neuroblastoma Australia, is a registered charity founded by families with children affected by the disease and has raised over $1.7 million for research into a cure for this complex cancer which almost exclusively affects young children.
You can make a difference. Help raise funds for research into more effective and less toxic treatments for neuroblastoma today.
