Story

At 9 weeks old, Roy was booked in to see a paediatrician as we had concerns about his appetite, growing belly and long periods of crying.

5 days later he had a kidney removed as well as a tumour which had grown to be the size of a tennis ball.

2 weeks after the operation and further tests, he was diagnosed with neuroblastoma.

This is a rare cancer, found in infants and children. Due to research over the years, survival rates for neuroblastoma have gotten better as doctors have found ways to improve on current treatments.

Roy has been diagnosed with low risk for now and will need to be watched closely for the next 2 years. We will hopefully be given an all clear by age 5.

Currently, only 50% of those children diagnosed with aggressive neuroblastoma will survive five years after diagnosis – and a third of those children that do survive, will have long term side effects from their treatments.

We are extremely lucky as Roy’s tumour was found early and had been growing in an organ which could be completely removed.

If you can spare any cash please donate to my 5km run/walk which I will be doing on Father’s Day to raise money to go towards research into developing better, safer treatments.

    Neuroblastoma Australia

Neuroblastoma is a devasting childhood cancer with the average age of diagnosis being just two years old. With survival of rates for aggressive neuroblastoma at only 50%, this disease claims more lives of children under the age of five than any other cancer.

We don’t need a miracle; just more research.

Neuroblastoma Australia, is a registered charity founded by families with children affected by the disease and has raised over $1.7 million for research into a cure for this complex cancer which almost exclusively affects young children.

You can make a difference. Help raise funds for research into more effective and less toxic treatments for neuroblastoma today.
